TOEI Animation is announcing that rock band FLOW will be covering the first Dragon Ball Z theme song, “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA”, for the upcoming 2013 film, “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods”.
The new version of the song will feature FLOW's distinctive style and speed. They commented:
“We are really excited to be able to perform ‘CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA’. We’ve enjoyed Dragon Ball since we were kids in elementary school and it has gotten our juices flowing! ‘CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA’ is a song we’ve sung often at karaoke, who knew we’d have the honor of doing a cover! We are really looking forward to the movie and hope everybody enjoys it as well as FLOW’s iteration of ‘CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA’.”
The original version was sung by Hironobu Kageyama, and was featured on the first 199 episodes of Dragon Ball Z in 1989.
“Battle of Gods” will be directed by Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director) at TOEI, and written by Yuusuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz), with Tadayoshi Yamamuro (Dragon Ball: The Path to Power, Beet the Vandel Buster) acting as the lead animation director.
Taking place during the manga's "lost decade", “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods” premieres March 30th, 2013.
