Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (Valkyrie, The Wolverine) revealed that Skydance Productions' live-action film adaptation of STAR BLAZERS anime series is still in negotiations.
When asked about the status of the film, McQuarrie said:
“Yes, the longest rights negotiation of planet Earth. I think we're very very close to finally… there's one last piece in the chain that needs to be worked out and when that's done I would immediately be able to start writing that.”
Earlier last year, Skydance Productions, the company who produced American films such as True Grit and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, is in talks to acquire the live action adaptation rights to the anime. Company head David Ellison and Josh Klein would produce the live action Star Blazers movie if the deal is completed.
Star Blazers is a dubbed and partly rewritten. American animated television series adaptation of Yoshinobu Nishizaki and Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship YAMATO anime series.
